KO4OS is a Linux based operating system made by me to help me learn. It is based on Linux From Scratch, with parts of Gentoo and Arch mixed in. Think of it like a worse version of any of those three.

It is for the purpose of getting into a custom Linux install more quickly than doing the (excellent) Linux From Scratch book and is intended for anyone who has been through the book multiple times.

It combines many of the scripts of LFS and uses a custom package manager called KO4. It also combines a few custom scripts and a few taken from other distros to speed up the process.

FAQ

Who is this made for?

Me. However if you are a fan of errors and frustration, this could be a good thing to try for you too.

Should I use it?

To learn? Or to get into a minimal Linux shell more quickly? You can give it a try. If not, no you should probably steer clear.

Is it up to date?

Absolutely not. Packaging is my least favorite thing to do and I try to avoid doing it. I’ll occasionally update stuff but mostly you’ll be on your own. The repo just contains the basics to get a system running, a few custom scripts and a few things from BLFS.

What do you have in the repo?

Take a look

Does that say the package manager KO4 is made in PHP!?

Listen, it’s the only language I know.

Did you use AI?

You bet your biscuit I did. KO4 was created initially as a Claude project. It was also used in several scripts. I warmed up the ocean a few times on this project.

I need help!

It is based on Linux From Scratch with bits of Gentoo and Arch, if you have any issues try searching the wikis of those projects. You can try contacting me but I probably won’t know either. ko4fzg@ko4fzg.com

Can I help?

It’s existing to learn and for me to grow, so I absolutely welcome any help. ko4fzg@ko4fzg.com
